Hoops Family Children’s Hospital – Phase 1 complete

Geiger Brothers work on the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital included 15 contract helicopter lifts of air handling units, piping and support structures to the roof.

Geiger Brothers is responsible for all plumbing, medical gas, heating and ventilation upgrades over the four phases of construction of the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital at West Virginia’s Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Walls designed to resemble train cars lining one side of the hallway reflect the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital’s river and rail decorative theme.

Supporters, donors, local and national leaders, physicians and hospital staff celebrated a milestone June 17 with a ceremonial ribbon cutting for the first completed phase of construction of the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital at West Virginia’s Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Construction is progressing in phases so no patient care areas have to close during reconstruction.

The four-phase project of patient room reconstruction is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2015.

As the mechanical contractor, Geiger Brothers is responsible for all plumbing, medical gas, heating and ventilation upgrades. Value of the Geiger Brothers contract over the four phases is $2.1 million.

The first phase included reconstruction of treatment, procedure and play rooms as well as the first set of eight patient-ready rooms with unique features and upgrades that make the environment family and child friendly.

During this first phase, Geiger Brothers work included 15 contract helicopter lifts of air handling units, piping and support structures to the roof of the hospital. All lifts were completed in just over an hour on an early Sunday morning.

The second phase began July 1 and consists of reconstructing 10 rooms for the hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as well as a new waiting room.

When completed, the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital will have large rooms with private bathrooms and showers, with many special features to comfort and delight young patients.
